As a general rule, stays at the Lava Flow Hostel are limited to 14 nights in a two month period. However, we do offer a long term stay option if we have availability. This option is typically a good fit for professionals traveling to Grants for work, students coming to Grants to attend New Mexico State University, seasonal land management employees, or individuals who are looking to be a part of the Continental Divide biking and hiking community. Long term guests are expected to participate and help with daily chores including laundry, cleaning, and making hostel visitors feel welcome.
We only allow long term stays in the Orange and Red Rooms. This means you will have your own bedroom with a cypher lock on the door. You will be sharing the bathroom, kitchen, and common areas with other travelers. Your monthly rent includes all utilities (water, electric, internet). Your personal belongings need to be kept in your room. You are not renting an apartment, you cannot bring your own furniture or lots of personal possessions. Pets and partners are not allowed, long term stays are only for single guests.
Long term guests are treated as residential cooperative members. You are expected to help with the operation of the Hostel, and act as a host for travelers staying at the Hostel. You will be expected to help with laundry, cleaning bathrooms, and general up keep. At most these chores and responsibilities will add up to a maximum of 5-10 hours per week. We're not asking for a lot, but we do expect participation.
Our monthly rate for long term stays is $500.00 per month. We do not offer long term guests a daily rate, it is $500.00 per month in one month increments. This means if you want to stay for 45 days you'll need to pay for two months. Long term stays are only allowed based on availability, require a pre-approved application, and require the first months payment and signed lease agreement prior to arrival.
